Thinking of Visiting?

We know stepping into a new church can be a big step. Let us make it easier.

Whether you're brand new to church or just new to Harrisburg UMC, we want you to feel at ease before you even walk through the door. From what we believe to where your kids will go, here's everything you need to know before your first Sunday with us.

What to Expect

Your first visit doesn't have to feel like the first day of school.

We get it—visiting a church for the first time can feel a little intimidating. What should you wear? Where do you sit? Will anyone talk to you? (We will—but in a good way!)

At Harrisburg United Methodist Church, our goal is to make you feel at home the moment you walk through our doors. Whether you're coming alone, with family, or just checking things out, you'll be greeted with warmth and treated like a friend.

Sunday Morning Service

Worship begins at 10:45 AM. Come a few minutes early to settle in—we're always glad to see you.

Here's what a typical Sunday looks like:

Traditional Worship Style

Our service includes hymns, prayer, scripture readings, and a thoughtful message. We follow the rich traditions of the United Methodist Church, rooted in grace and scripture.

Music That Moves You

You'll hear classic hymns played on piano or organ, with opportunities to sing along (or just listen and soak it in). From time to time, we’re blessed by guest musicians who share their gifts and help make worship even more meaningful.

A Message That Matters

Each sermon is rooted in the Bible and made relevant to everyday life. Whether you're facing challenges or just looking for hope, we aim to speak to the heart.

Come as You Are

There's no dress code. You'll see everything from jeans and sweaters to Sunday best. We care more about your presence than your outfit.

We'd Love to Meet You

Your story matters. Your presence matters. And you are welcome here—just as you are.

If you've been thinking about visiting, consider this your sign. We hope to see you this Sunday.

Bring the Family

All Ages Welcome

Don't stress about the occasional wiggle or whisper—kids are a vital part of our community, and we love having them in worship.

Families & Children

Because worship is easier when you're not worrying about your little ones.

We know how hard it can be to focus on a sermon when you're also juggling diaper bags, snack requests, and restless kiddos. That's why we offer a safe, welcoming nursery and children's ministry during our Sunday morning service.

Childcare Is Available

Our nursery and children’s programs are led by caring, background-checked volunteers

who love helping kids feel at home. Nursery care is available throughout the entire

worship service.

Sunday School

Younger children, up through age 12, join us for the opening part of worship and are

then dismissed for Sunday School. They enjoy Bible stories, crafts, and playtime while

learning simple lessons about God’s love.

All Ages Welcome

Of course, kids are always welcome to stay with you in the sanctuary if that’s what

works best for your family. We love having them in worship—and a little wiggle or

whisper doesn’t bother us one bit.

FAQs

  • Do I need to dress up?

Not at all! Some people wear dress clothes; others come in jeans and a T-shirt. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

  • Is the church accessible?

Yes. Handicap parking and no-step access are located at the back of the building. We also have handicap-accessible restrooms.

  • Do I have to be a Methodist to attend?

Nope. We welcome folks from all backgrounds—whether you've been in church your whole life or you're exploring faith for the first time.

  • Can I take communion?

Yes. In the United Methodist tradition, communion is open to all who seek to follow Christ. You don't need to be a member.

  • What happens after the service?

Most people linger to chat and catch up. It's a great time to meet others and ask any questions you have.

  • What if I'm nervous?

That's totally normal. Just know you're not alone—we've all had a first Sunday. Our greeters are happy to show you around and help you feel at ease.
